President | Owner
Richard “Rich” Donaldson, President and Owner of Charter Building Group, has spent more than four decades building homes, communities, and lasting relationships throughout southeastern North Carolina. Since founding the company, he has remained committed to a simple philosophy: build quality homes, stand behind the work, and always do what is right.
A licensed General Contractor with extensive experience in residential construction, Rich has overseen the development and construction of countless homes throughout the region. Early in his career, he played a significant role in the development of Porters Neck Plantation in Wilmington, helping shape one of the area’s most recognized and enduring master-planned communities. His contributions reflect a long-standing commitment to thoughtful growth and quality community development.
Throughout his career, Rich has earned a reputation for high standards, strong leadership, and unwavering integrity. In recognition of his contributions to the industry, he was inducted into the Wilmington-Cape Fear Home Builders Hall of Fame in 2025, honoring both his impact on residential construction and his support of the local building community.
Today, Rich serves as a trusted advisor to the company while day-to-day leadership has transitioned to his daughter, Holly Overton. As Charter Building Group continues into its next generation, Rich’s influence remains evident in the company’s culture, values, and commitment to excellence.
Outside of work, Rich enjoys traveling, cycling, hiking, and skiing, but most of all values spending time with his wife of more than 40 years and their grandchildren.
